What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at HNE?
Overview
Our client, a growing multi‑state law firm, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join its Colorado-based foreclosure, default, and real estate litigation team. This is a hands-on, litigation-focused role offering meaningful courtroom experience, case ownership, and the opportunity to make an immediate impact.
In this position, you’ll manage your own caseload from start to finish within a flexible, hybrid work environment, without the pressure of traditional billable hour requirements. If you’re looking for a role that values independence, practical experience, and long-term stability, this is an excellent opportunity to build your litigation career.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of contested foreclosure, default, and real estate litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Manage a dynamic caseload of approximately 25–30 active files
- Represent clients in court across Colorado, appearing for hearings and contested matters
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, affidavits, and related legal documents
- Prepare exhibits, filings, and hearing materials with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Communicate directly with courts, opposing counsel, borrowers (including pro se parties), and clients
- Track critical deadlines, statutory requirements, and compliance obligations
- Conduct foreclosure reviews and ensure quality control on litigation matters
This is a truly end-to-end litigation role, offering valuable experience in both substantive legal work and case management.
What We’re Looking For
- Active Colorado Bar license (required)
- 2–4 years of litigation experience
- Ability and willingness to attend in-person hearings throughout Colorado
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfort working independently and managing filings without extensive support
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Foreclosure or default experience is a plus, but not required
Who Will Thrive Here
This role is ideal for an attorney who is:
- Self-sufficient and proactive, with the confidence to manage cases independently
- Comfortable handling the full scope of litigation—from filings to hearings—without heavy delegation
- Interested in gaining significant courtroom exposure early in their career
- Adaptable, resourceful, and solutions-oriented in a high-volume practice
Attorneys with backgrounds in foreclosure/creditor’s rights, family law, or government/prosecutorial litigation often excel in this environment.
Success in this role also requires professionalism, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills, particularly when working with pro se litigants navigating challenging circumstances.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- No traditional billable hour requirements
- Hybrid flexibility with a supportive team environment
- High level of autonomy and case ownership
- Consistent courtroom exposure and practical litigation experience
- Opportunity to join a growing, stable firm with long-term career potential
If you're looking for a role where you can hit the ground running, develop your litigation skills, and take ownership of your work, this position offers a clear path to doing just that.
