Job Summary: The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in promoting a safe and sustainable work environment for our organization. The EHS Specialist will be responsible for implementing and managing the company's environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, minimize workplace hazards, and protect the well-being of employees, visitors, and the surrounding community.

Hours Required: 40 per Week

Major Responsibilities

  • Environmental Compliance:
    • Monitor and assess environmental regulations at the local, state, and federal levels to ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards.
    • Develop and implement environmental programs and procedures, including waste management, air quality monitoring, water pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
    • Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections to identify potential areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
  • Health and Safety Management:
    • Establish and maintain a comprehensive health and safety management system in alignment with relevant industry standards and best practices.
    • Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate workplace risks.
    • Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees to promote a safety-conscious culture and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
    • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures to prevent recurrences.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response:
    • Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire safety protocols, and disaster preparedness measures.
    • Conduct drills and exercises to ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively in the event of emergencies.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Keep abreast of changes in environmental, health, and safety regulations, and ensure the organization's policies and practices are updated accordingly.
    • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Employee Training and Engagement:
    • Collaborate with HR and management to develop EHS training programs and promote awareness of health, safety, and environmental issues among employees.
    • Engage with employees to encourage their involvement in safety initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to EHS activities, incidents, and inspections.
    • Analyze data and performance metrics to identify trends, measure program effectiveness, and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Travel to all HMS sites will be required.


Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree would be advantageous.
  • 3 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management, preferably in a similar industry or setting.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal EHS regulations and standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess risks and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees at all levels and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Certification in relevant EHS areas (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail.
