Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities:
We are seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined individual to join our team as an Apprentice Tooling Maintenance Technician. This is an entry-level position designed for someone looking to build a long-term career in tooling and mold maintenance within a high-volume injection molding manufacturing environment.
The apprentice will work under the guidance of the Tooling Maintenance Technician, assisting with and learning all aspects of mold and tooling care. Initial responsibilities will focus on completing routine preventative maintenance tasks (PMs) and supporting skilled repairs, with the goal of eventually developing into a fully capable Tooling Maintenance Technician.
Essential Functions:
Mold Preventative Maintenance (In-Press and Out-of-Press):
- Perform basic mold PMs under supervision, including cleaning, inspecting, and lubricating tools.
Tool Prep & Post-Run Care:
- Assist in prepping tools for production and performing routine post-run clean-up and storage procedures.
Documentation:
- Record basic PM activity in maintenance logs and help maintain accurate tool maintenance records.
Component Handling:
- Organize, clean, and inventory tooling components and assist with tool changes when required.
Developmental Expectations
Over time, the apprentice will be expected to:
- Gain knowledge of tooling components and mold construction.
- Learn to inspect and assess molds for wear or damage.
- Understand how to interface with external tool shops and internal teams regarding tool status.
- Progress toward performing complex repairs and participating in refurbishment planning.
Required Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on technical work.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., stand, and move about the facility for extended periods of time.
Competencies:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Experience in a manufacturing or mechanical environment, exposure to injection molding or tooling concepts and technical coursework or training in machining, maintenance, or mechanical systems preferred.
