Provides professional, high-quality support within the back office of the organization while maintaining strong relationships with patients, caregivers, and business office departments. The Respiratory Intake Specialist assists patients with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) orders, applying medical billing knowledge and exceptional customer service skills to manage referral and intake procedures, coordinate scheduling, and communicate clearly via telephone, email, and fax.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for taking some referrals for respiratory equipment including but not limited to Re-Supply orders and CPAP intakes. Obtaining all intake information accurately and in a timely manner for same day needs.
  • Responsible for obtaining required medical documentation from referral sources and other appropriate medical providers.
  • Responsible for determining if equipment and services being referred are covered by the patient’s insurance plan and the level of financial coverage by the plan.
  • Responsible for assuring coverage criteria required for services provided by insurance payers is met and appropriate medical documentation is obtained substantiating coverage.
  • Responsible for communicating services and equipment to be provided to the patient and explaining to the patient and their care giver the patients’ financial responsibilities.
  • Responsible for entering patient demographic information into software system, creating the sales order for the equipment provided and accurately filing outside medical documentation obtained into the software system.
  • Responsible for coordinating services provided with other staff associated with delivering patient services.
  • Willingly accepts other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Strong knowledge of computer functions and basic Microsoft Office applications. Detail oriented, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to follow through to the end.

Experience

  • 1 years or more in a healthcare intake or clinical setting, Home Health/Hospice (preferred)
  • Medical terminology experience (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and possess effective communication skills.
  • Must be capable of prioritizing and handling multiple tasks of critical importance and function well in an atmosphere of stress.
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology within Home Health or Hospice.
  • Must provide excellent customer service to clients and maintain professionalism, including professional phone etiquette.
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate with multiple agency staff, while executing daily tasks.
  • Must maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all staff and clients in line with HIPAA standards.

Essential Functions & Work Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization through written and two-way verbal communication.
  • Attention to detail to ensure overall patient care.
  • Able to read and write at a high school graduate level.
  • Able to lift 10 to 20 pounds.
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate various office equipment (e.g., personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.)
  • Able to work normal office hours to meet established deadlines.
  • Available to work (40 hours/week) Monday- Friday during our normal business hours (8:00 – 5:00).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
