A Landscape Crew Leader is responsible for leading and managing a crew of 2–5 team members to successfully complete landscape construction and installation projects. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead, supervise, and motivate a crew of 2–5 team members.
- Provide clear direction, daily task assignments, and hands-on training.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
- Maintain strong attention to detail across the entire property, ensuring a clean, organized, and professional appearance at all times.
- Maintain jobsite organization, cleanliness, and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients when needed.
- Monitor crew productivity and uphold company performance standards.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure safe operation of all tools and equipment.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company vehicle policies.
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and transport of equipment and materials.
- Safely and proficiently operate landscape construction equipment, including:
- Skid steers
- Mini excavators
- Other common landscape industry machinery
- Load and transport equipment using truck and trailer combinations.
- Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Maintain and protect company vehicles and equipment assets.
- Perform and oversee:
- Site preparation, leveling, and grading
- Drainage system installation (including drainage tile)
- Hardscape paver installation
- Retaining wall installation
- Plant installation and bed preparation
- Read, interpret, and accurately execute work according to blueprints, landscape plans, and construction drawings.
- Ensure projects meet design specifications and company quality standards.
- Demonstrate job-specific knowledge of:
- Plant identification
- Growth habits and spacing requirements
- Proper planting techniques
- Common plant diseases and landscape issues
- Identify plant health concerns and recommend solutions.
- Valid driver’s license (required).
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for operating commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience loading, securing, and driving truck and trailer combinations.
- Experience leading and managing a small crew (2–5 team members).
- Proficient operation of skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment.
- Experience in grading, drainage installation, paver systems, and retaining wall construction.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety standards and OSHA best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- 3 years of landscape construction experience.
- Prior leadership or foreman experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot jobsite challenges and adjust plans as needed.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work extended hours during peak season.
