Description of Job
This position is responsible for the management of History Colorado’s school-aged child care education programming at El Pueblo History Museum. Works closely with the Assistant Director to ensure continuity within EPHM operations & programming. Supervises multiple education assistants, interns, volunteers, & Americorps members. Creating and sustaining relationship building community partnerships and volunteer coordination.
About the Role & Realistic Job Preview: The Education Coordinator is the driving force behind the daily execution of our educational programs at the El Pueblo History Museum (EPHM). We are looking for a versatile educator who thrives in a highly collaborative, structured environment.
In this role, you will be primarily responsible for executing the established framework of History Colorado’s Hands on History (HOH) curriculum for K-12 students and youth camps, ensuring continuity with our sister community museums across the state. While the HOH youth programs utilize a strict, established framework that you will be expected to follow and deliver, you will have full creative autonomy to design, develop, and implement our Adult Learning programs from the ground up.
Additionally, as we transition our youth programs to meet state Childcare Licensure standards, this role will be instrumental in maintaining a safe, compliant, and enriching environment for all attendees.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Educational Programming & Camp Operations
- Manage and run Friday Fifth Day programming
Manage and run week-long winter, spring, and summer camps utilizing the established Hands on History (HOH) program framework.- Design, develop, and execute Adult Learning programs (you have full creative autonomy to craft your own curriculum and lesson plans for this audience).
- Coordinate and schedule K-12 field trips and museum tours for diverse audiences.
- Shop for, track, and manage program supplies and materials.
Staff, Volunteer & Instructor Leadership
- Directly supervise and schedule the education assistant, AmeriCorps members, interns and program volunteers.
- Recruit and manage independent instructors for various education programs.
Administration & Program Compliance
- Manage the administrative functions of the education department, including billing, budgeting, reporting, and timekeeping.
- Ensure all youth programs, facilities, and staff meet strict Childcare Licensure standards, including maintaining health/safety protocols and tracking compliance documents.
Community Engagement & Team Collaboration
- Actively promote History Colorado by tabling at recruitment and community events.
- Provide hands-on support for general El Pueblo History Museum (EPHM) events throughout the year as needed.
- Attend regular collaborative meetings to ensure HOH program continuity across History Colorado’s network of community museums, as well as attending other required administrative meetings.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Must have at least twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours) of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual (per CDEC 2.509.B.1).
OR
An Associate's, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university AND at least three (3) months (455 hours) of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual (per CDEC 2.509.B.1).
The successful candidate will possess:
Excellent communications skills and public service experience.
- Experience in working with volunteers.
- The ability to initiate projects, set goals and priorities, and manage multiple projects independently.
- Up-to-date awareness of local and national education standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate with school and general audiences and an ability to research and interpret complex subject matter in accessible and creative ways.
Additional Requirements for this position:
- Some travel is required for group meetings, outreach, and consultation.
- The use, handling, or exposure to hazardous materials can exist in museum collections and historic properties may be required.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be 21 or older
- Background Check: Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check (CBI/FBI), as required for Childcare Licensure.
- Driver’s License: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
Licensure Training: Must complete all mandatory state childcare licensing training (including First Aid/CPR, standard precautions, and specific staff qualification modules) upon hire.
