What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranger position at Historic Blakeley State Park?
**RANGER**
The duties of this position are diverse and critical to the smooth functioning of the park.
They include:Groundskeeping, Cutting grass, clearing and improving trails, removing brush and fallen trees), general maintenance of equipment, machinery, structures, and all utilities servicing park amenities), light construction (fencing, gates, boardwalks, etc...), facility use preparation (cleaning campsites, bathrooms, etc...), service as a crewman aboard the park's passenger boat, guiding group tours of children and adults, enforcing park rules, and helping oversee a variety of park special events.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and detil-oriented. Must be able to work outdoors year-round performing manual labor and operating park equipment and have familiarity with basic carpentry tools and machinery operation. Familiarity with electrical and/or plumbing work strongly desired. Must be able to work a varying schedule including occasional weekends, be willing to learn new skills and function in a team environment and have an appreciation for and willingness to learn about the park's unique natural and cultural heritage.

- Provide visitor services, such as explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas.
- Assist with operations of general facilities, such as visitor centers.
- Confer with park staff to determine subjects and schedules for park programs.
- Conduct field trips to point out scientific, historic, and natural features of parks, forests, historic sites, or other attractions.
- Perform emergency duties to protect human life, government property, and natural features of park
- Perform routine maintenance on park structures.
- Survey Park to determine forest conditions and distribution and abundance of fauna and flora.
