ABOUT HISTORIC ANNAPOLIS
The mission of Historic Annapolis (HA) is to Preserve and Protect the historic places, objects, and stories of Maryland’s capital city, and provide engaging experiences that Connect people to the area’s diverse history and heritage. HA serves as a steward of a dozen historic buildings for the State of Maryland, operates multiple historic house museums, advocates for historic preservation, and is currently engaged in an extensive, state-of-the-art restoration of the James Brice House, a National Historic Landmark.
POSITION SUMMARY
Summary: The Visitor Services Associate assists with all aspects of visitor services and provides exemplary customer service at Historic Annapolis (HA) historic sites open to the public for interpretation, including the William Paca House and Garden, the Museum of Historic Annapolis, Waterfront Warehouse, and Hogshead. The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for manning reception desks; processing transactions for admissions, membership, and public programs; collecting visitor statistics; maintaining site security; facilitating and giving tours, both inside and outside; and assisting with field trips, group tours, public programs, and education department events and HA fundraisers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist with reception and visitor services at all HA sites and maintain the highest standards of customer service for all visitors.
· Assist with field trips and group tours, including greeting, coordination of VSAs and docents, routes, payment, marketing and reports.
· Respond effectively and knowledgeably to questions from visitors regarding the organization, HA sites, exhibit information, planned programs/events, local tourist information, and membership and volunteer opportunities.
· Conduct all opening and closing procedures for both the register/reception desk and the facilities of the William Paca House and Gardens, Hogshead, and HA Museum.
· Accurately record retail sales processing through our software platform (Altru) including, but not limited to, admissions, event tickets, merchandise sales, and membership sales and appropriately balance the day’s business.
· Provide in-depth and engaging tours at all HA sites and Maryland State House.
· Answer the telephone and provide the requested information. If unable to answer the question, VSAs forward the call to appropriate staff members.
· Ensure merchandise maintenance, restock supplies, and clean as needed to optimize the appearance of the front desk areas.
· Participate in all aspects of setting up/breaking down and staffing HA education programs in support of the organization.
· Perform accurate point-of-sale processing, admissions, event, and membership sales to balance the day’s business.
· Attend required meetings.
· Assist with administrative tasks and logistics for public, education, and fundraising programs.
· Maintain knowledge of HA membership levels and benefits and promote HA membership sales.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required and 1 year of related experience in a customer service, visitor service, retail, or hospitality environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees in history, art history, museum studies, education, or related fields are considered a plus.

· Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Effective knowledge of HA properties and programs as well as Annapolis tourism and restaurants.
· Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse population of visitors and staff.
· Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions to accomplish assigned tasks accurately and appropriately.
· Demonstrate a desire and ability to function as a team player, including working a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of Historic Annapolis.
· Public speaking experience.
· Additional fluency in other languages such as Spanish, American Sign Language, etc. is beneficial.
