The core functions of this position are building, establishing, and maintaining customer relationships to grow sales while performing a broad spectrum of truck maintenance, diagnosis, and repair functions on the road in one of our fully equipped service trucks
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Diagnoses cause of malfunctions and performs repairs.
- Maintains availability for after-hours service calls and stays available for an open work schedule
- Maintains and increases relationships with customers in assigned territory
- Analyzes customer needs for additional sales opportunities
- Identifies and establishes new accounts
- Maintains and upgrades skills and technical knowledge for all products, services, and processes
- Performs work as outlined on Repair Order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or, if requested by the customer.
- Communicates with Service Advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Documents all work (performed and recommended) on the Repair Order.
- Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools and events.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Operates tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports safety issues to management.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensures that customers’ trucks are kept clean. Notifies Service Advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-To-Know, etc.
- Follows all accounting and procedural rules as outlined in the Service Department Polices Book and the Company Employee Handbook.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to the Service Manager.
- Abides by the company Drug Free Policy.
- Additional duties may be added as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED, Post-Secondary education preferred
- Ability to read or comprehend simple instructions and write correspondence.
- Valid Driver’s License and insurability, CDL preferred
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Basic personal computer skills including Microsoft Windows, electronic mail and word processing.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
- Ability to access via steps, upper-level parts storage area.
- Must be able to operate a forklift once necessary operator’s license is obtained.
