His Hope Ministries is a shelter that seeks to provide shelter to homeless. His Hope Ministries is a 501(c)3 that offers a variety of programs. We serve five counties on Maryland's Eastern shore. This position is grant funded. We are looking for evening shifts on Sunday and Monday from 4:00pm-7:00pm. Our services include:
· Emergency shelter: Open from September to April. Shelter, meals, case management and services
· Street Outreach: Staff coordinates with local police and other entities to help individuals get off the street, by providing emergency shelter and case management services.
· Youth Programs: Shelter, and Case Management for unaccompanied youth from 13-24
· Rapid Rehousing and case management

His Hope Ministries seeks to provide a safe and nurturing environment for men, women, and children in a housing crisis. As a representative of His Hope Ministries, the Shelter Support Specialist team member is critical in meeting this goal and is responsible for all guests and the facility's safety.
*Please note: Seasonal Employee during the seasonal operation of the His Hope Ministries Shelter, tentatively beginning of September through end of April.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee the shelter's day-to-day operations during scheduled shift designated by the Shelter Director and Executive Director.
- Prepares and serves meals in compliance with most up-to-date safety procedures as needed.
- Respond to client concerns that arise and mediate as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with guest policies outlined in the Guest Handbook

- Call emergency services and first responders in the event of an emergency. Execute the Emergency Plan as necessary. Contact Shelter Director.
- Monitor shelter supplies and food items to identify and remove expired or spoiled items.
- Completes Daily checklists as assigned.
- Stay informed of shelter updates and trainings by reading emails.
- Engage in cleaning and janitorial duties to uphold cleanliness and sanitary standards daily.
- Meet with Shelter Director individually and attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Participates in training in core areas including Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health, Stress Management, De-Escalation, Cultural Competency, First Aid and CPR, Narcan Administration, ADA Compliance, etc.
- Complete incident report forms immediately as needed and gives to the Shelter Director
- Provides Grievance form to guest to complete if there is a problem or complaint and then immediately send to Shelter Director.
- Provide access to medications and supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A commitment to the Christ- centered mission and activities of His Hope Ministries.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Must pass a background check.
- Possession of a valid Maryland Driver's License, if transporting guests.
- Able to enforce rules and procedures firmly but in a kind and respectful manner.
- Good crisis intervention skills
- Interacts will all visitors to the shelter.
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with at least one year of social service preferred.
- Able to speak Spanish is a plus but not a requirement.
Core Training Requirements
· Participate in training in core areas, including Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health, Stress Management, De-Escalation, Cultural Competency, First Aid and CPR, Naloxone Administration, and ADA Compliance.
· Additional training as mandated by policy, best practice, or the law.
