Assistant Teacher (1:1)

Job Summary

To provide individualized behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and instructional support to a student during the afterschool program. The 1:1 will support the student in structured activities, small group settings, recreational activities, and non-academic areas while helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a high school diploma.
• Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or afterschool setting preferred.
• Team-oriented, flexible, reliable, compassionate, energetic, and patient.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to the individual needs of the student.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
• Ability to maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Successful completion of a background check and CORI, required.

Responsibilities:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to the assigned student throughout the afterschool program.
• Support the student with behavioral, academic, social-emotional, communication, and developmental needs.
• Assist the student in participating successfully in afterschool activities, routines, and transitions.
• Provide individualized and small group support during homework, enrichment, recreational, and other afterschool activities.
• Support the student with academic tasks and homework as directed by school or afterschool staff.
• Implement accommodations and supports as appropriate to the student's individual needs.
• Support social-emotional regulation, communication, executive functioning, independence, and positive peer interactions.
• Implement behavior support strategies as directed by appropriate school or program staff.
• Encourage positive behavior, problem-solving, independence, and appropriate social skills.
• Supervise and support the student safely throughout the afterschool program, including indoor and outdoor activities, snack, recreation, transitions, and dismissal.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for the student and other program participants.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with the student, parents/guardians, school staff, and Kids In Action staff.
• Communicate relevant student needs, concerns, and progress to appropriate staff.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding the student, family, and school information.
• Follow all Kids In Action policies, school policies, safety procedures, and program expectations.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Kids In Action program director, assistant director, and team lead.
