What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Hilton Head Christian Academy?
Primary Function: To direct campus health and wellness initiatives at HHCA.
Primary Responsibilities:
- General nursing responsibilities to care for K-12 students and faculty/staff
- Educating students, faculty and staff about health/medical concerns, including reporting communicable diseases as required by CDC/DHEC
- Administer medications and document medication administration (maintain security of controlled substances and confidentiality of students receiving medications)
- Monitor students with special medical needs
- Proficiency within Medical Data Software system (Magnus) to include:
- Maintain up to date medical information on all students, faculty & staff (annual physicals, immunization records, etc)
- Documentation of care given along with notification to student’s family
- Updating and reporting immunization records as required by DHEC (45 Day report, etc)
- Staff training on use of Magnus
- Maintain OSHA requirements (blood borne pathogens, bio hazard kits, etc)
- Maintain MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) information
- Coordinate and maintain records CPR & AED & Stop the Bleed training for all F/S
- Train staff on allergie/Epinephrine use and other necessary student medical needs during pre-planning
- Coordinate optional flu vaccine clinic to F/S annually
- Collaborate with Athletic Trainer for student injuries or other needs
- Coordinate and administer drug testing, interpret test results and submit positive results for further evaluation
- Provide confidential counsel to students, faculty and staff regarding health concerns
- Work with Athletic department to coordinate on-campus physicals for student athletes
- Serve on Threat Assessment Team
- Serve on Crisis Management Team, including assistance to Director of Safety / Security for all monthly emergency drills
Requirements
Personal and Professional Profile:
Education: Degree in Health Related Field, Registered Nurse preferred
Experience: 2-3 years of pediatric nursing preferred
