POSITION SUMMARY

The Houseman / Banquet Setup team member is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, appearance, and readiness of the hotel and banquet facilities. This position plays an important role in supporting the Banquet Manager and Event Operations team by preparing event spaces, moving equipment and furniture, maintaining common areas, assisting with event breakdown, and ensuring that all assigned areas meet company standards.

The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable, detail-oriented, and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESHotel Houseman Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of public areas, hallways, service areas, and assigned spaces.
  • Clean and maintain floors, carpets, entrances, elevators, stairways, and other common areas.
  • Remove trash and recycling from designated areas and dispose of it properly.
  • Restock supplies in assigned areas as needed.
  • Assist the housekeeping department with cleaning and general maintenance-related tasks when requested.
  • Report maintenance issues, damages, safety hazards, or unusual conditions to the appropriate manager immediately.
  • Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, storage areas, and supply rooms in an organized condition.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other items throughout the property.
  • Ensure all public and operational areas remain clean, safe, and presentable.
  • Follow all hotel safety, sanitation, and operational procedures.

Banquet Setup Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Banquet Manager to prepare event spaces according to the approved BEO, floor plan, and event requirements.
  • Set up tables, chairs, linens, staging, dance floors, podiums, buffet tables, bars, and other event equipment.
  • Arrange banquet rooms according to the approved floor plan and number of guests.
  • Assist with setting up buffet stations according to the approved menu and number of stations.
  • Ensure event rooms are clean, organized, properly arranged, and ready before guests arrive.
  • Move tables, chairs, equipment, and other items safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with setting up meeting rooms, weddings, conferences, social events, corporate functions, and other special events.
  • Assist the Banquet Manager with last-minute room adjustments or setup changes requested by the client or event team.
  • Maintain clean and organized banquet storage areas.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are returned to their proper storage locations after each event.

During Events

  • Remain available to assist the Banquet Manager and Event Operations team with operational needs.
  • Replenish supplies and assist with maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of event areas.
  • Assist with moving or adjusting tables and chairs when approved by the Banquet Manager.
  • Respond promptly to requests from the Banquet Manager or Event Operations Manager.
  • Maintain professional and courteous behavior around guests and event clients.
  • Help keep service corridors, banquet areas, and surrounding spaces clean and free of unnecessary equipment or debris.

Event Breakdown

  • Break down tables, chairs, staging, buffet equipment, bars, and other event equipment as directed.
  • Remove linens and other used materials and place them in designated areas.
  • Clean and reset banquet rooms following events.
  • Return all equipment and supplies to their assigned storage areas.
  • Remove trash and debris from event spaces.
  • Inspect the event area after breakdown to ensure it is clean, safe, and ready for the next event.
  • Report damaged or missing equipment to the Banquet Manager immediately.

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Follow all hotel and banquet safety procedures.
  • Use proper lifting and carrying techniques when moving furniture and equipment.
  • Use equipment only as trained and instructed.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment to management.
  • Maintain clear emergency exits and ensure that hallways and pathways are not obstructed.
  • Follow all applicable OSHA, health, sanitation, and property policies.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Although this position is primarily operational, the Houseman / Banquet Setup team member is expected to provide professional guest service at all times.

  • Greet guests professionally when encountered.
  • Assist guests when appropriate or direct them to the appropriate team member.
  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance throughout the shift.
  • Protect guest privacy and property.
  • Conduct yourself professionally while working in guest-facing areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous hotel, housekeeping, banquet, event setup, or similar experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks according to deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the Banquet Manager, Event Operations team, housekeeping, and other hotel departments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires frequent physical activity, including:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Moving tables, chairs, banquet equipment, and supplies.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry items appropriate to the position.
  • Working indoors and outdoors as required.
  • Working in a fast-paced event environment.

ATTENDANCE & RELIABILITY

Reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. Because banquet events operate according to scheduled event times, employees must arrive on time and be prepared to begin work at their scheduled start time.

Employees are expected to:

  • Follow the posted schedule.
  • Notify management as soon as possible if they are unable to report to work.
  • Follow all call-out and attendance procedures.
  • Remain on duty until the scheduled work is completed or released by the manager.
  • Follow all applicable hotel policies regarding breaks, timekeeping, and leaving the property during scheduled work hours.

This position is an important part of the Event Operations team and directly supports the Banquet Manager in ensuring that every event is properly prepared, maintained, and broken down according to hotel standards and the approved event requirements.

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
