Shift Details
Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, including setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies based on surgical procedures and physician preferences.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating surgical needs.
- Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety.
- Assist with patient positioning, preparation, draping, and transport to and from the operating room.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and adhere to all infection control and safety policies.
- Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain a well-organized, stocked operating environment.
Education, Certification & Experience:
- Completion of a nationally accredited Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician program preferred (may substitute for entry-level experience).
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in instrument decontamination, sterilization, and surgical tray preparation required for entry level; additional one (1) year of surgical setting experience preferred for full performance level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, surgical instruments, and operating room protocols.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required within six (6) months of employment.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and effective communication skills.
