Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), patient care, and occupational therapy interventions across diverse settings. This role offers an opportunity to work closely with clients of all ages, including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities. The successful candidate will contribute to developing personalized care plans, supporting patient recovery, and enhancing quality of life through skilled therapeutic interventions.
Duties
- Assist licensed occupational therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans for patients across inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing facilities, and home health environments.
- Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including grooming, dressing, feeding, and mobility assistance.
- Facilitate therapy sessions focused on childhood developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Help with patient transport and manual handling to ensure safe movement and transfer of clients within various healthcare settings.
- Contribute to the development and adjustment of care plans based on patient progress and therapist directives.
- Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions, patient responses, and progress notes in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Support the use of medical imaging insights and physiology knowledge to enhance therapeutic strategies when applicable.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes in acute care, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, and home health services.
Requirements
- Certification as a Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program is mandatory.
- Prior experience in acute care settings or skilled nursing facilities is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise in assisting with ADLs and providing occupational therapy for clients with disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and occupational health principles relevant to therapy practices.
- Experience working with pediatric populations dealing with childhood developmental delays or autism spectrum disorder is preferred.
- Familiarity with outpatient therapy procedures and clinic-based interventions is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative healthcare team committed to patient-centered care.
