- Provides prompt and efficient services. Patient lights are answered in a timely manner. Knocks and asks permission before entering a patient’s room. Provides privacy by closing the door and curtain during procedures.
- Identifies and acts on the needs of patients in a positive, polite, compassionate, and timely manner.
- Has knowledge of the patient’s condition and plan of care and assists under the direction of the RN.
- Maintains accurate records within the chart: graphic, intake and output, lab draws/IV starts, and appropriate patient care documentation.
- Collects patient specimens (i.e. urine, blood, stool, sputum) per protocol, labels and sends to the laboratory in a timely fashion.
- Performs clerical duties related to admissions, discharges, transfers, deaths, etc. Inputs computer data appropriately. Answers the telephone in a friendly manner, takes messages, and directs calls.
- Effectively performs basic nursing care procedures: weights, dressing changes, Foley insertion and removal, start and removal of IV lines, applying warm/cold compresses, simple NG care, blood glucose testing, etc.
- Promptly and accurately recognizes and reports all concerns and abnormal findings. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to advocate for the patient.
