Summary:
The Resource Teacher, District, Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Alternative Communication Assistive Technology (ACAT) Team, will provide support to students with disabilities, parents, teachers, and district staff in the selection and implementation of assistive technology.
Responsibilities:
• Completes consultations, evaluations, and follow-up for students with disabilities.
• Participates in consultations and Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings.
• Maintains knowledge in the use and programming of assistive technology devices and software.
• Assists in implementation of assistive technology into ESE curriculum.
• Develops and conducts professional development for school district personnel on instructional strategies and best practices related to assistive technology.
• Provides coaching to ESE personnel improving instruction, classroom organization and management, and effective implementation of assistive technology.
• Provides training for parents on the use of assistive technology.
• Conducts presentations at district, local, and national conferences.
• Participates in assessment, selection, and procurement of assistive technology to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
• Maintains electronic records and database.
• Assists or participates in other professional activities as assigned by the supervisor of speech language.
• Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of best practices in specified content area.
• Conducts data conferences with classroom teachers to interpret data and plan instruction.
• Models effective teaching techniques when presenting to groups and other professionals.
• Assists specified content supervisors in developing model lesson plans and curriculum development.
• Continues to develop own professional expertise through professional readings, training, and conferences.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
Education:A bachelor’s degree. Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Exceptional Student Education, or similar preferred.
Experience:Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in using assistive technology devices and software preferred.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:One of the following certificates/licenses required: Florida Professional Educator Certificate: Certificate in Exceptional Student Education, Florida Professional Educator Certificate: Certificate in Speech-Language Impaired (grades K-12), Florida Department of Health License in Speech-Language Pathology, or Florida Department of Health License in Occupational Therapy. Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification or Certificate of Clinical Competence for speech-language pathologists preferred.
Language Skills:Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills:Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:Microsoft Office products, knowledge of various Window and Apple operating systems, knowledge of utilities, software, and applications available to district students and/or employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.
Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:This position requires traveling to various school sites, district offices, and/or community organizations across the district.
