Job Summary
The Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office is the busiest prosecution office in the state of New Hampshire, responsible for prosecuting felony offenses in the region. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Victims Unit (SVU) Prosecutor. This role focuses on handling sexual assault cases, ensuring justice for victims while upholding the highest standards of legal practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to prosecuting sexual assaults and contributing to community safety. Work alongside several well-experienced trial lawyers in the busiest prosecution office in the state. This is the place to become an excellent trial lawyer. The successful candidate will be supported by exceptional trial paralegals and legal assistants to enhance case preparation and courtroom efficiency. We employ all available litigation preparation and courtroom technologies including criminal database software (PBK), video, audio, and artificial intelligence to prepare the most effective presentation of evidence possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Prosecute sexual assault and related felony cases from investigation through trial and sentencing.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, victim advocates, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to build strong cases.
- Conduct legal research, prepare motions, and present evidence in court.
- Participate in pretrial negotiations, plea agreements, and jury trials as needed.
- Provide guidance and support to victims throughout the legal process.
- Stay current on relevant laws, precedents, and best practices in sexual assault prosecution.
- Assist in training junior staff and contributing to office initiatives aimed at improving prosecution outcomes.
- Work closely with trial paralegals and legal assistants to manage case files, prepare trial materials, and coordinate logistics.
Required Qualifications
- Eligibility for admission to the New Hampshire Bar Association (active membership preferred; must be eligible to practice law in New Hampshire).
- At least 2 years of experience in criminal prosecution.
- Demonstrated interest in sexual assault prosecution, such as through prior casework, advocacy, or related professional activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Jury trial experience in criminal cases.
- Familiarity with victim-centered approaches and trauma-informed prosecution techniques.
- Strong communication, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Experience working in a prosecutor's office or similar legal environment.
