What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Assistant Teacher position at Hillsboro Community Child Care Center, Inc.?
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the physical ability and stamina to remain on feet and/or walk for extended periods, interact actively with children, and assist with daily classroom routines. Must be able to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and engage in play. Must be able to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs. Must have the ability to see within normal parameters, hear within normal range, and speak, read, and write English.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom & Child Supervision
- Provide attentive, developmentally appropriate supervision of children at all times.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.
- Follow all KDHE staff‑to‑child ratio requirements.
- Assist with daily routines including meals, diapering/toileting, rest time, and transitions.
- Support positive behavior guidance and model appropriate social skills.
Instructional Duties
- Assist with implementation of age‑appropriate curriculum and activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Prepare materials and set up learning centers as directed by the Lead Teacher or Director.
- Observe and document children’s progress and share relevant information with the Lead Teacher or Director.
Health & Safety
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures as required by KDHE licensing.
- Assist with maintaining accurate attendance, incident reports, and health documentation via Brightwheel.
- Ensure safe use of playground equipment and monitor outdoor play.
Parent & Family Communication
- Greet families warmly and maintain positive, professional communication.
- Share daily updates regarding children’s activities, routines, and needs.
- Refer any concerns or sensitive matters to the Director or Lead Teacher as appropriate.
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with other staff to maintain a supportive, respectful work environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and center events.
- Assist in other classrooms as needed (Float position).
- Follow all center policies, procedures, and licensing regulations.
POSITION TYPES
- Lead Teacher: Responsible for curriculum planning, classroom leadership, and guiding assistant staff.
- Assistant Teacher: Supports the Lead Teacher with instruction, supervision, and daily routines.
- Float Teacher: Provides support across multiple classrooms based on daily staffing needs.
TRAINING AFTER HIRE
Training programs relevant to the position or required by KDHE regulations will be provided. Staff must complete all mandatory annual training and continuing education requirements.

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
