The Dispatcher serves as a key point of contact for customers and drivers, coordinating daily hauling needs, scheduling routes, and ensuring freight moves safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies. This role requires strong communication, sound judgment, and the ability to balance customer service, driver support, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule and dispatch drivers and equipment based on customer needs while following DOT Hours of Service, safety guidelines, and company policies.
- Communicate with customers, drivers, and internal teams to coordinate orders, routes, paperwork, maintenance needs, and daily operational updates.
- Monitor dispatched runs, adjust routes as needed, and help resolve issues that arise while drivers are on the road.
- Maintain accurate dispatch logs, order details, BOLs, and driver paperwork to support billing and operational accuracy.
- Serve as a resource for drivers and partner with HR, Safety, Billing, Maintenance, and other departments as needed.
- Support driver performance, safety compliance, and disciplinary processes by identifying concerns and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Learn customer requirements, service areas, hauled products, loading/unloading needs, and equipment capacities.
- Assist with training new dispatchers and participate in the driver interview process when needed.
- Use sound judgment to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support overall operational success.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous dispatch, transportation, logistics, or related experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Leadership ability with experience coaching, training, or mentoring others preferred.
- Good map-reading skills and ability to use GPS or routing tools.
- Familiarity with TMW and Microsoft Office preferred.
- Class A CDL preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
