Hilbert College seeks a Campus Minister who supports and advances the Catholic Franciscan mission of the College by fostering spiritual growth, community, and belonging among students, faculty, and staff.

Rooted in the Gospel and the Franciscan tradition of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, this role accompanies students in their exploration of faith, meaning, purpose, and vocation. The Campus Minister serves as a visible, relational, and pastoral presence within the Office of Mission and Belonging and contributes to a campus culture shaped by Franciscan values. This position provides leadership for Campus Ministry programs and collaborates with campus and diocesan partners to support the spiritual and communal life of the college.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Pastoral & Relational Presence
  • Provide non-clinical pastoral care, spiritual support, and accompaniment to students, faculty, and staff of all faith backgrounds.
  • Maintain a consistent, active, and visible presence in campus life through intentional relational engagement.
  • Support students in vocational discernment, meaning-making, and personal development.
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries, offering informal mentoring and active referrals to counseling and wellness services when appropriate.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with the Franciscan Sister of St. Joseph and foster opportunities for student engagement with them.
  • Liturgical, Sacramental, & Retreat Life
  • In collaboration with diocesan clergy, support weekly Mass and seasonal liturgies in alignment with Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo sacramental guidelines.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and promote retreats, prayer experiences, and spiritual formation opportunities.
  • Support and sustain campus prayer traditions, including the Blessing of Dorm Rooms, Blessing of the Brains, and Baccalaureate Mass.
  • Introduce and invite students into the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church in an accessible, educational, and welcoming way.
  • Participate in professional organizations e.g. National Catholic Campus Ministry Association (NCCMA), and the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU).
  • Student Engagement & Programming
  • Design, implement, and assess Campus Ministry programming that supports student faith development, community building, and belonging.
  • Provide leadership and formation for specific initiatives and traditions, such as the Franciscan Spirit Club, speaker series (e.g., Agape Latte), St. Francis Week, the Giving Tree, and the Live Nativity.
  • Integrate Franciscan spirituality and Catholic Social Teaching into student formation and service-learning contexts.
  • Communications & Administration
  • Manage Campus Ministry communication channels, including social media, campus announcements, and digital platforms, to highlight liturgical seasons and events.
  • Manage the Campus Ministry programming budget responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with institutional policies.
  • Oversee event logistics, spaces, and scheduling in coordination with campus partners.

Job Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, Catholic Social Teaching, Catholic sacramental life, and the Abrahamic faiths, along with a demonstrated respect for and commitment to promoting the Catholic faith tradition.
  • Familiarity with and affinity for Franciscan spirituality, values, and traditions and willingness to learn more about the Franciscan charism.
  • Strong relational, intercultural, and communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals of diverse faith traditions and worldviews.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends, retreats, and major campus events as required.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Counseling, Human Services, or a closely related field required.
  • Demonstrated experience in campus ministry, youth ministry, parish ministry, or higher education student affairs preferred.

Compensation: $45,000 - $50,000

This is a 10-month position

This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and organizational needs.
