The Role
Writes, edits and prepares internal company publications and communications. Selects, writes, and reviews editorials and special articles. Develops, recommends, and maintains editorial policy. Interviews to obtain items for publication and to verify facts; assigns or approves artwork; and approves final proofs and page layouts, and websites. May coordinate production and distribution activities.
The Internal Communications Specialist creates and coordinates engaging internal communications content that keeps employees informed and connected to company priorities, culture and the work of our shipbuilders. The role proactively identifies stories aligned with the established content calendar, interviews shipbuilders and subject matter experts, and develops content for Ingalls Connect News, myHII/SharePoint and other internal communications channels. Responsibilities include writing and editing stories, managing PCR content, gathering photos and supporting content, and adapting information for a variety of formats, including traditional stories, short-form digital content, photo/caption features, video and other employee-focused communications. The position works within established communications strategies and priorities to execute timely, relevant content across internal channels.

- Familiarity with internal communications platforms, content management systems or intranet tools such as SharePoint
- Experience using project and workflow management tools such as Monday.com
- Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging and easy-to-understand content
- Experience managing multiple assignments, deadlines and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with AP Style and editorial standards
- Experience developing content for multiple channels and audiences from a single story or topic
