Position Overview
Budtenders at Hightend are responsible for delivering outstanding guest experiences while maintaining a spotless, fully stocked, and operationally perfect environment. This role combines high-level customer education, sales, and hospitality with hands-on station readiness, cleaning, stocking, and organization. You will spend the majority of your time ensuring the dispensary looks and operates at its best, while providing knowledgeable, efficient service to every guest.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain fully stocked, clean, and organized stations before opening and throughout the day
- Greet every guest upon arrival and wish them farewell on departure
- Deliver exceptional, personalized customer service and product education to every guest
- Be knowledgeable about all cannabis products, cannabinoids, terpenes, consumption methods, and current daily deals (in-house and Weedmaps)
- Accurately process transactions following all cash-handling procedures and maintain an accurate cash drawer
- Create or update guest profiles in the POS system during transactions
- Keep personal items off the sales floor at all times
- Perform opening/closing checklists, side work, deep cleaning, and periodic all-staff cleaning sessions
- Alert Inventory Manager or Manager on Duty when any product is running low
- Participate in staff meetings, events, outings, and promotional activities
- Stay current with industry trends through required reading and publications shared by management
- Remain compliant with all California cannabis regulations (age verification, weight conversions, medical vs. recreational rules, etc.)
- Complete other duties or projects as assigned by Shift Leads, Managers, or ownership
Required Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older with valid California ID
- Reliable transportation and ability to be punctual for every shift, meeting, and event
- Ability to stand/walk for up to 6 hours at a time
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs safely and properly
- Comfortable learning new skills and systems quickly
- Legible handwriting and clear written/verbal communication
- Ability to follow directions thoroughly and maintain attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
- Ability to remain calm and use good judgment under pressure
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work cohesively and professionally with co-workers
- Ability to meet and uphold Hightend’s high standards of presentation, service, and compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a budtender, server, bartender, retail associate, or other hospitality/customer-facing role
- Cannabis industry background or strong personal knowledge of cannabis products, strains, cannabinoids, terpenes, and consumption methods
- Familiarity with POS systems (Treez experience is a plus)
- Passionate about cannabis and motivated to educate guests
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Medium work: frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Occasional work in small/enclosed spaces
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak periods
