The Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Services provides direct patient care using the nursing process, administers medications, collects specimens, and documents patient interactions. They monitor patient conditions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and advocate for the patient's well-being while also educating patients and families on care needs.
Description:Key Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Patient Education and Advocacy:
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Clinical Skills:
- Observes central monitor screens, interprets, recognizes, and records changes in patient's rhythms and notifies nurse as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, or RN Diploma required
Required Skills:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment if not current upon hire, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of employment.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) required within 6 months of employment.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certifications preferred.
License:
Current TN or Multi-State RN licensure
Experience:
Six months to one year experience as RN in an emergency setting preferred
