The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing standards-based lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks, requiring a valid state Visual Art Teacher License (PreK–8). The educator fosters a safe, motivating environment that promotes high expectations, artistic expression, collaboration, and self-respect among a diverse student body. By utilizing varied instructional strategies and differentiated learning, the teacher adapts instruction to meet all students' socioeconomic, cultural, and remedial needs. Progress is tracked through formal and informal assessments, with achievement data used to improve instruction and regularly communicated to families.
Job Description
Plan and implement standards-based lesson plans with clear objectives aligned to the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks and district scope and sequences.
Provide opportunities for students to appreciate art and develop their artistic expressions, while helping young students work and share collaboratively to develop a strong sense of respect for self and others.
Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socioeconomic levels and cultural backgrounds, communicating high standards and expectations for all students.
Use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and needs.
Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction, adapting lessons for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of all identified students.
Provide a motivating, stimulating, safe, and supportive learning environment while modeling effective teaching strategies and techniques.
Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward mastery of grade-level standards, regularly communicating feedback through district-designated procedures.
Assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze performance data, and prescribe targeted actions for instructional improvement.
Collaborate and integrate with faculty across disciplines to build meaningful curricular connections and plan instruction that meets the needs of a diverse population of learners.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, families, and community members.
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
Remain current by participating in school-wide, within-district, and out-of-district professional development activities, including instructional technology and monthly reading teacher Professional Learning Time meetings.
Abide by state statutes, school board policies, district handbooks, and regulations, performing additional duties as requested by principals.
