Job Overview: Highland Valley Elder Services is searching for a part time Benefits Support Specialist/certified Application Counselor to assist consumers apply for health insurance benefits, enroll in health plans, maintain insurance benefits, and apply for pother State and Federal benefits including Fuel Assistance and SNAP. Working 15 hours per week Monday through Friday during the hours of 9am-5pm. Reliable vehicle and ability to drive is required. Hourly rate: $25.00.
REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree. Experience with Elders, Ability to work independently. Strong communication skills and attention to detail with the ability to evaluate and verify information against a set of standards. Strong computer skills.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
1.Provide assistance to older people and individuals with disabilities to help them understand the programs and services that may be changing or ending, as well as assisting them complete to forms, applications, or other necessary documents.
2. Become trained and certified by Mass Health and the Health Connector and completed the CAC exam to support Consumers in applying, maintaining, and renewing health insurance coverage. Act as a resource for Consumers in Highland Valley’s Service Area on benefit eligibility information and application assistance.
3. Offer both virtual and in-person support, as requested by the Consumer.
4. Become a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) through the self-paced, virtual training and pass the CAC exam to receive CAC certification within four weeks of hire.
5. Complete any supplemental training offered by MassHealth on application assistance and the redetermination process, including the training on the Application for Health Coverage for Senior and People Needing Long-Term-Care Services (SACA) through the MassHealth Learning Management System.
6. Participate in the quarterly MassHealth Lead Certification Application Counselors Technical Assistance Meeting and join the Massachusetts Health Care Training Forum (MTF) to stay up to date on public health insurance information from MassHealth, the Health Connector, and Health Safety Net (HSN) programs.
7. Be knowledgeable about the Fuel Assistance programs and application process.
8. Participate in and complete annual Fuel Assistance trainings provided by Community Action and Valley Opportunity Council.
9. Be knowledgeable about the Department of Transition Assistance (DTA) programs and services, including the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses Form.
