About the Opportunity
Highland Presbyterian Church is seeking a caring, organized, and faith-filled leader to create welcoming, safe, and engaging ministries where children, youth, and families can grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.
Working closely with Highland's pastors, staff, committees, families, and volunteers, the Director will lead children's programming, support youth ministry, equip volunteers, coordinate outreach programs, and help children and youth feel connected to the life of the congregation.
What You'll Do
Lead Children's Ministry
Oversee weekly Sunday School and be present each Sunday morning to coordinate programming and volunteers.
Recruit, train, schedule, encourage, and support volunteer teachers and helpers.
Prepare classrooms, curriculum, materials, and supplies and maintain a welcoming, safe, and organized environment.
Build relationships with children and families and help new families become connected at Highland.
Support Faith Formation and Youth Ministry
Work with the Associate Pastor of Congregational Care to select, evaluate, and adapt curriculum for children and youth.
Help children and youth engage Scripture, prayer, worship, and the Christian faith in age-appropriate ways.
Provide organizational, relational, and program support for Youth Ministry, including calendars, communication, registrations, forms, transportation details, and event logistics.
Participate regularly in Youth Group and other youth activities and build meaningful relationships with Highland's youth.
Coordinate Outreach, Worship, and Special Events
Coordinate family-focused and intergenerational events such as Trunk-or-Treat, the Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Kickoff, Christmas Eve Family Service, Vacation Bible School, and seasonal family programs.
Oversee the weekly Wednesday morning Gym Jam outreach program and attend two Wednesday mornings each month.
Support opportunities for children and youth to participate in worship and maintain children's worship resources.
Keep Ministry Organized and Connected
Maintain a comprehensive Children, Youth and Family Ministries calendar and send a cohesive weekly email to families and volunteers.
Manage registrations, attendance records, rosters, permission forms, Realm records, room reservations, supplies, and other program details.
Collaborate on newsletters, website updates, promotional materials, registration forms, annual budget planning, and expense tracking.
Attend weekly staff meetings and regular Children, Youth and Family Ministries and Discipleship Committee meetings.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree required.
Previous experience in children or youth ministry, education, or a related field required.
Seminary education or a master's degree in theology, ministry, Christian education, faith formation, or a related field strongly preferred.
A growing Christian faith and alignment with the mission of Highland Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).
Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
Ability to recruit, equip, empower, and encourage volunteers.
A collaborative approach to working with pastors, staff, parents, committee members, and volunteers.
Required Safe Church clearances, or willingness to obtain them.
Schedule and Flexibility
This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with flexible scheduling in coordination with the Associate Pastor of Congregational Care. Sunday mornings, Tuesday staff meetings, regular Youth Ministry participation, committee meetings, and two Wednesday morning Gym Jam programs per month are required. Some evening and seasonal-event hours are also required.
