Receiving/Shipping/Warehouse Clerk
We are seeking a qualified full-time Receiving/Shipping/Warehouse Clerk to join our Facilities team at Highland Community College. This position is responsible for coordinating the receipt, storage, delivery, and shipment of materials, supplies, equipment, and mail across campus. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently while providing excellent service to campus departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, identify, and route incoming shipments to the appropriate campus departments.
- Inspect incoming shipments for damage and verify packing slips against purchase orders.
- Sort and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment to designated campus locations.
- Prepare outgoing shipments and all required documentation for carriers and the post office.
- Coordinate pick-up of common carrier shipments.
- Make daily pick-ups and deliveries of U.S. mail at the Freeport Post Office.
- Deliver mail and materials throughout campus on a regular schedule.
- Pick up purchased supplies and materials from local vendors as needed.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of fleet vehicles, including fueling, cleaning, and basic upkeep.
- Maintain College archives.
- Plan and coordinate College auctions and make bank deposits for the College.
- Follow safe work practices and procedures at all times, including proper lifting techniques and completion and cleanup of assigned projects.
- Operate snow removal equipment and salt roads and parking lots during winter months as assigned.
- Identify and report unsafe or emergency conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, inventory, mail services, or a related field preferred.
- Valid Driver's License required.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of warehousing, shipping, and receiving practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safe work practices, and proper handling of chemicals.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and practices.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
- Skill in operating warehouse and material-handling equipment safely.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and campus personnel.
- Ability to operate snow removal equipment and perform outdoor duties as assigned.
- Must complete a successful criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry large or bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Work performed in office, warehouse, and outdoor environments, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment, and machinery.
