Cafeteria Cashier
Highland Community College is accepting applications for a Cafeteria Cashier. This is a part-time position, working 20 hours per week. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. This position will assist with daily cafeteria operations and provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a computerized POS system and cash register, accurately scanning items and processing transactions.
- Process payments using cash, credit cards, and student meal cards.
- Greet customers courteously, provide efficient service, and resolve concerns professionally to minimize wait times.
- Manage and balance a cash drawer, including counting money and making change accurately.
- Reconcile transactions at the end of each shift, including printing and reviewing reports.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free checkout area.
- Restock non-food items such as napkins, straws, utensils, and condiments.
- Perform daily setup and teardown of assigned work areas.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of English usage and grammar.
- Basic math skills and comfort using technology and POS systems.
- Understanding of customer service best practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skill in operating a cash register and handling money accurately.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform light work, including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Potential exposure to sanitizing and cleaning agents.
Salary Range: $16.34 - $24.52 per hour
