Senior Accountant
About the Opportunity
A growing, engineering-focused company supporting both commercial and government clients is seeking a Senior Accountant to own and lead its full-cycle accounting function.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role in a small, collaborative environment where you will serve as the primary accounting resource and a trusted partner to leadership. You’ll have direct visibility into business operations and play a key role in financial strategy, reporting, and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
- Own preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial accuracy
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Partner with external CPA firms for tax preparation, reporting, and audits
- Develop and manage budgets and forecasts in collaboration with leadership
- Provide financial analysis and actionable insights to support business decisions
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, invoicing, and payroll processes
- Monitor daily cash activity and maintain visibility into cash flow and liquidity
- Prepare cash flow reporting, including weekly and forward-looking projections
- Support forecasting, financial modeling, and operational performance tracking
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data within accounting systems
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Manage multi-state tax filings including sales & use tax and related compliance
- Support internal and external audits
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and accuracy
- Strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Partner with leadership on financial planning and long-term strategy
- Assist with payroll-related accounting and collaborate cross-functionally
- Support insurance renewals and related financial documentation
- Perform ad hoc analysis and contribute to special projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in small to mid-sized business environments preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience working with external CPA firms preferred
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in accounting systems (QuickBooks experience strongly preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Paychex or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance
- Experience with expense management or invoicing platforms is a plus
- Exposure to government contracting or compliance environments is a plus
