What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Boys Basketball Coach position at High School?
The Head Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for various aspects of the Boys Basketball Program, such as working with the Administration to schedule opponents, training, and coaching team members.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
- Head Coaching experience coaching basketball at the high school level.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, fellow coaches within the District and Conference, governing organizations, opponents, staff, parents, officials, and students.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in boys basketball.
- Coordinate the development, promotion and recruitment for the Boys Basketball Program; this includes involvement with the Elementary school program.
- Assist the Athletic Director in overseeing and supervising the use of Basketball facilities within the District.
- Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the boys basketball program and other athletic programs in the District.
- Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Assess players’ skills and assign team positions.
- Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
