 Primary Purpose:

Provide instruction, behavioral support, and academic interventions for students assigned to the DAEP. Foster a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment that promotes academic progress, personal responsibility, and successful transition back to the regular campus.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid state teaching certification.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth, behavioral intervention programs, or alternative education settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques and student behavior interventions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans as needed.
  • Maintain a highly structured classroom environment with clear behavioral expectations.
  • Monitor and document student academic performance and behavior.
  • Use behavior management strategies and restorative practices to address student needs.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, special education staff, and parents.
  • Prepare progress reports and maintain accurate student records.
  • Support students in developing social, emotional, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Participate in student transition planning for return to the home campus.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish positive relationships with challenging student populations.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure in difficult situations.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent interaction with students exhibiting behavioral challenges.
  • May require crisis intervention and de-escalation activities.
  • Regular attendance and participation in staff meetings and professional development.
  • Ability to supervise students in classrooms, common areas, and during transitions.

 Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting no ambulatory students

Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; may require districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

 

 

 

 

Salary : $56,020 - $78,397
