Position Summary:
Southern Boone High School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Instrumental Music Assistant to support a growing and dynamic instrumental music program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teaching ability, a passion for student development, and a commitment to excellence in both performance and classroom instruction.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Bands in planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the band program
- Co-teach and/or independently direct concert bands, marching band, and other ensembles as assigned
- Support marching band operations, including rehearsals, performances, drill instruction, and event logistics
- Provide sectional and small group instruction to enhance individual and ensemble performance
- Assist with curriculum development, music selection, and student assessment aligned with Missouri Learning Standards
- Help coordinate concerts, competitions, festivals, and travel
- Support recruitment and retention efforts through collaboration with feeder middle school programs
- Work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and band booster organizations
- Assist with inventory management, uniforms, equipment, and music library organization
- Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Bands or school administration
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or assisting with concert and marching band programs
- Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Specifics:
- This is a part-time, stipend-based position.
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and provided in accordance with the district’s stipend schedule.
