Ready to Make a Real Difference?

Are you someone who takes pride in the details, speaks up when it matters, and isn't afraid to take the lead when something's off? Are you someone who values coaching over criticizing?

At High Plains Steel Services, we're not just looking for someone to fill a seat. We're looking for a boots-on-the-ground leader who lives and breathes safety to fill our Safety & Training Manager position.

This isn't just about keeping people compliant; it's about keeping people alive, respected, and working at their best.

What Makes High Plains Steel Services a Great Place to Work?

At High Plains Steel Services, our reputation is built on excellence, safety, and teamwork. We work on diverse commercial and industrial projects that challenge your technical skills and reward your dedication.

You're not just taking on a new job when you join our team. You're becoming part of a family that values your expertise.

We take pride in our culture which is built on three ideas:

Give a Damn: We care about the details and the people doing the work.

Build Trust: We follow through on commitments and do what we say we will do.

Stand Behind the Work: We own our responsibilities and hold ourselves accountable.

When safety improves, it means someone avoided an injury. That's the real impact of this role.

A Day in the Life as the Safety & Training Manager

As our Safety and Training Manager, you'll lead and develop our safety culture, including daily audits, incident investigations, and policy development.

You'll mentor the team and support our safety culture, coach field staff, maintain compliance, and represent us at industry events.

You'll Be Responsible For

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining company safety policies, plans, and training programs.
  • Conducting job site audits and leading weekly toolbox talks.
  • Training teams on certifications like NCCER, CPR, and equipment operation.
  • Leading incident investigations, implementing corrective actions, and preventing repeat risks.
  • Managing safety documentation and collaborating with HR and Legal on compliance.
  • Representing High Plains Steel Services at AGC, ABC, SEAA, and other events.

Who Shouldn't Apply

This job isn't for everyone, and that's okay.

  • If you hate getting in the field, this won't work out.
  • If you wait for someone to tell you what to do instead of taking initiative, please don't apply.
  • We won't be a match if time management isn't a strength.
  • If you drop the ball on documentation, this won't be a good fit for you.

You'll Fit Right In If

If you're a natural leader who believes safety is non-negotiable and thrives on getting things done correctly, this might be your role.

Here's who we're looking for in our Safety & Training Manager role:

  • You take initiative and keep projects moving without being asked.
  • You're excited to build and lead new processes within clear guidelines.
  • You're personable and easy to work with, but firm and clear when necessary.
  • You have sharp attention to detail and spot problems before others do.
  • You believe rules aren't optional; they're how great teams succeed.
  • You like structure and accountability, and you thrive with both.

What We Expect From Our Ideal Candidate

  • 1-3 years in a safety or construction leadership role.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and field safety best practices.
  • Current certifications or ability to earn quickly: CPR, NCCER, Traffic Flagger, Equipment Ops.

  • Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with company match.
