What are the responsibilities and job description for the Credit Analyst position at High Impact Financial Analysis?
High Impact Financial Analysis is an impact finance consulting firm and Certified B Corporation® that provides underwriting, portfolio management, and data analytics services to mission-driven lenders and investors. We have an exciting full-time, entry-level opportunity for a Credit Analyst in our Albany, NY office.
The ideal candidate is passionate about creating positive social impact through a career in community lending and impact investing and has a college degree in accounting, finance, or business with a concentration in finance. No prior work experience is required. The Analyst will have the opportunity to work across our Underwriting and Portfolio Management business lines, gaining exposure to business and real estate finance, enterprise and project-level financial analysis, as well as the mission-driven finance industry that uses capital for good.
This position supports High Impact’s mission and goals by spreading and analyzing nonprofit and for-profit financial statements, completing lower complexity commercial credit write-ups and loan reviews, supporting underwriters and portfolio managers on more complex commercial credits, and performing research to support the team. A typical day will include tasks like inputting data into Microsoft Excel, analyzing financial statements to assess the financial health of a company, completing reporting for clients, and writing evaluations of the strength of a company’s management team.
High Impact’s clients include Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), green banks, philanthropic foundations, and government entities across the U.S. The Analyst will gain unparalleled exposure to the breadth of social impact lending, including innovative and cutting-edge affordable housing, community facility, green energy, and small business projects. In addition, the Analyst will learn to analyze a variety of complex subsidy sources, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), and federal- and state-level government grants and loans.
To be considered for this position applicants will have:
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or a business degree with a concentration in finance. Work experience in accounting or finance can substitute for a relevant degree.
Technical Skills
- Strong familiarity with nonprofit and/or for-profit financial statements and financial analysis.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Solid professional writing skills.
- Ability to conduct research and due diligence with limited guidance.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel.
Soft Skills
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work focused and independently.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to learn.
- A positive and solutions-oriented attitude.
Compensation and Benefits: $60,000 - $65,000 plus full benefits including a 401(k) with a 5% match; paid time off; profit share; and a pre-tax company contribution to health insurance. We offer 10 holidays and 18 paid days off (with more based on years with the firm), and every first Friday of the month is a company holiday as well. We want our staff to be able to strike a good work-life balance as we work hard to support our mission of community development.
Travel: Rare--up to 2 times annually
