Job Description

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, load-bank testing, inspections, and minor repairs on commercial and industrial generator systems.

This hands-on field position requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently at customer locations. The technician maintains generator readiness, identifies potential equipment issues, and coordinates with the Service Department when repairs require advanced diagnostics or a Field Service Technician.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on commercial and industrial generators and related equipment.
• Perform engine oil and filter changes and replace fuel filters, air filters, and other routine maintenance items.
• Safely operate a lube skid for oil changes and fluid service.
• Perform load-bank testing and accurately document test results.
• Inspect batteries, cables, terminals, and charging systems. Replace batteries and battery chargers as needed.
• Inspect and replace belts and hoses and perform defined minor repairs.
• Inspect generator equipment for leaks, wear, damage, and other potential problems.
• Identify and document equipment concerns requiring additional diagnosis or repair.
• Escalate major engine, electrical, controls, alternator, or advanced diagnostic repairs to the appropriate Field Service Technician.
• Accurately complete service reports, work orders, inspection documentation, and parts usage records.
• Maintain provided tools, equipment, service vehicle, and work areas in clean and professional condition.
• Communicate professionally with customers and the Service Department regarding completed maintenance and identified repair needs.
• Follow safety policies and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in training to develop additional generator maintenance and technical skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance and defined minor repairs.
• Experience with oil and filter changes, batteries, belts, hoses, cooling systems, or similar equipment maintenance.
• Basic electrical knowledge and willingness to develop generator-specific electrical skills.
• Ability to recognize equipment concerns and determine when advanced diagnosis or repair is needed.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work independently at customer locations and communicate professionally.
• Ability to accurately document maintenance, inspections, testing, and repair needs.
• Self-directed, dependable, and well organized.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced field-service environment.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work occasional overtime.
• Ability to travel occasionally based on customer and branch needs.

Experience Requirements

• Three years of mechanical knowledge required.
• Three years of commercial generator experience required.
• Three or more years of mechanical, diesel, automotive, heavy equipment, generator, or similar hands-on maintenance experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Bend, kneel, climb, crouch, and work around generator equipment.
• Safely climb on and around generators, trailers, and related components.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work safely around noise, oil, grease, diesel fuel, coolant, batteries, and other materials associated with generator maintenance.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, and preventive maintenance equipment.
• Properly use all required PPE.

Schedule & Availability Requirements

• Full-time, Monday through Friday.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as assigned.
• Occasional overtime, weekend, and after-hours work based on customer needs.
• Occasional travel based on customer and branch needs.
