What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE II position at HIDALGO COUNTY DRAINAGE DISTRICT 1?
Performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and repair work. Work involves maintaining Drainage District facilities, and stationary equipment; operating motorized equipment. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Performs maintenance and construction duties at District facilities.
Maintains drainage facilities mowing grass along guard rails, drain ditches and picking up trash.
Upkeep of District yard.
May assist in installing drainpipes at District facilities and/or projects.
Operates chainsaw, lawn mower and other hand tools.
Loads/Unloads materials, trash, brush, etc., onto truck/utility trailer to dispose of properly.
Maintains records on work orders for projects.
May assist with the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, systems, or components.
May operate and repair minor equipment.
May perform inspections of operating machinery, equipment, and systems.
May be assigned to monitor District equipment at pump locations throughout the County as needed.
Working hours subject to change as deemed necessary to the District’s needs.
Regular attendance is a must.
Assists in cleaning equipment, hand tools and assigned equipment/unit.
Pulls weeds, maintain district facilities as required.
Assists in duties such as fence building, repair and painting.
May maintain a workshop for the repair, alteration, refinishing and construction of furniture, fixtures and equipment.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Graduation from a high school or equivalent (GED), preferred.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in drainage ditch construction and repair work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION
Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
Must be able to be insured by the District’s insurance carrier.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and construction of drainage ditches.
Ability to operate weed-eater, lawn mower, shovel, ax, hole-digger, rake and other equipment.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment.
Must be able to swim.
Ability to perform maintenance; to follow instructions; to work from drawings, diagrams, construction plans or sketches.
Must have basic knowledge of hand tools associated with manual labor and the minor repair of the equipment.
Ability to operate a jackhammer, pole-hole digger, hole-auger, etc., maintenance instructions and procedure manual.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions and procedure manual.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) with the ability to converse fluently in both languages, preferred.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.
Ability to solve simple and common-sense problems and interpret simple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to understand, follow and give oral and written instructions.
Knowledge in basic computer skills.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other crew members.
Ability to perform strenuous work in all types of weather.
May be assigned other duties in addition to those listed.
Ability to train others.
