You will work closely with the project team, support quality control, uphold site safety, and help guide and develop other carpenters and laborers. While not a supervisory title, this position serves as a craft leader on the jobsite.

We are seeking a Master Carpenter to bring technical carpentry expertise to architect-driven projects. This role requires advanced framing, finish, layout, and problem-solving skills. You will work closely with the project team, support quality control, uphold site safety, and help guide and develop other carpenters and laborers. While not a supervisory title, this position serves as a craft leader on the jobsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain full-time presence on the jobsite as a trusted craft expert
- Communicate daily with Project Managers and Supervisors to coordinate workflow
- Uphold and reinforce company safety protocols for employees, subcontractors, and visitors
- Support seamless project execution and help prevent rework through communication and planning
- Provide accurate feedback on schedule needs, field conditions, and material requirements
- Maintain material inventory and assist in procurement planning
- Track job-related purchases and maintain accurate documentation
- Proactively resolve field challenges to avoid delays and protect quality
- Maintain organized drawings, documents, and specifications related to assigned tasks
- Execute work from structure to fine finish trim at an exceptional standard of craftsmanship
- Provide hands-on training and mentorship to developing carpenters
- Prepare mockups and samples as needed to support decision-making and progress
- Perform precision layout to 1/16" tolerances, maintaining plumb, level, and square
- Represent Hickory professionally with all clients, architects, and site visitors
- Minimum 5 years of carpentry experience in residential and/or commercial construction
- Expert-level skills in framing, finish carpentry, millwork installation, and hardware systems
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and shop details
- Experience working with diverse materials (wood, composite, metals, specialty products)
- Ability to build, adjust, or troubleshoot custom doors, cabinetry, trim, and louvers
- Ability to translate visual concepts and sketches into built elements with minimal oversight
- Demonstrated ability to lead and guide small teams (2-10 people) onsite
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, professional work style
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must own and maintain a professional carpentry tool set
- Lift and carry up to 75 lbs
- Work on roofs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms with proper PPE
- Navigate crawlspaces, attics, and tight or unfinished areas
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in varied weather conditions
- Natural or corrected vision of 20/40 or better
