Job Summary:
The Over-The-Road (OTR) Driver is responsible for transporting goods across long distances to various destinations, ensuring timely and safe delivery of Hickmans Egg Ranch products. This role requires extended periods of driving, overnight trips, and adherence to all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is a professional, safety-conscious driver with a strong commitment to on-time deliveries and customer service.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Safely operate commercial vehicles over long distances, including interstate travel, following all federal and state transportation regulations.
- Transport Hickmans products to multiple destinations, adhering to assigned schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, documenting any maintenance or safety concerns and reporting them to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate logs of hours of service (HOS), mileage, and fuel consumption, in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured and loaded to prevent damage or shifting during transport.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and supervisors regarding route updates, delays, and any issues encountered on the road.
- Follow all company and DOT safety protocols, including the use of PPE and biosecurity measures, especially when handling agricultural products.
- Represent Hickmans Family Farms professionally at all times, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a positive company image.
- Assist with basic vehicle maintenance checks, such as oil, fuel, and tire pressure, to ensure vehicle readiness.
- Perform other related and local tasks as assigned by the Transportation Manager to support the company’s delivery and distribution objectives.
Requirements and Skills:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- DOT Medical Card and ability to pass required physical and drug screenings.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Class A CDL driver, preferably with over-the-road or long-haul experience.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service (HOS) compliance.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules.
- Physical capability to load and unload cargo as necessary and perform basic vehicle inspections.
- Flexibility and willingness to work overnight routes, weekends, and extended hours.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving long distances.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to load/unload cargo.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and temperatures during travel.
