A welding supervisor manages daily welding operations, leading a team to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient production by assigning tasks, inspecting weld, enforcing safety, training staff, managing resources and ensuring compliance with industry codes (like AWS/ASME) and project specifications.
Duties:
- Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate welders; assign daily tasks and manage performance.
- Inspect welds for compliance with blueprints, codes (AWS, ASME), and specifications; ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Enforce safety rules, maintain a safe work environment, and ensure adherence to regulations.
- Coordinate activities, manage schedules, optimize workflows, control costs, and minimize waste.
- Maintain records, reports, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Monitor necessary consumables, equipment, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Understand and follow company safety procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Deep understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW).
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards (AWS, API, ISO).
- Ability to use and care for precision measuring equipment and tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other tools and gauges.
- Knowledge of both metric and inch measuring systems.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Oral, written and technical communication skills are necessary for this position.
- Math, reading and mechanical aptitude.
- Organization and time management skills
Education/Training:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Proven experience in welding and fabrication. Experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
