Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Roofing General Superintendent to oversee field operations for commercial new construction and reroof projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing Production Superintendents, coordinating field operations, driving production schedules, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The General Superintendent serves as the bridge between field operations and project management, providing leadership, workforce planning, scheduling, quality control, and operational oversight across multiple commercial roofing projects.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Project Oversight
- Oversee multiple commercial roofing projects from mobilization through completion.
- Manage daily field operations for new construction and reroof projects.
- Ensure projects stay on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material needs.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and field leadership to ensure successful project execution.
Leadership
- Directly supervise and mentor Production Superintendents and field leadership.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
- Assist with workforce planning and labor allocation.
- Support hiring, coaching, and performance management of field personnel.
Safety
- Maintain OSHA compliance and company safety standards.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits and safety audits.
- Lead safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices.
- Ensure crews utilize proper PPE and follow all safety procedures.
Quality Control
- Monitor workmanship throughout all phases of construction.
- Ensure roofing systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications.
- Resolve field issues quickly while maintaining project quality.
- Participate in inspections and project closeout activities.
Materials & Equipment
- Coordinate material deliveries and equipment utilization.
- Monitor inventory and material usage.
- Report equipment maintenance or replacement needs.
Documentation & Reporting
- Review production reports, payroll hours, invoices, and field documentation.
- Approve PTO requests for field personnel.
- Monitor project progress and communicate updates to management.
- Assist with project closeout documentation, warranties, and final inspections.
Client Relations
- Serve as a field representative with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and inspectors.
- Maintain strong communication throughout each project.
- Resolve jobsite concerns professionally and efficiently.
Operational Planning
- Participate in project handoff meetings, bid reviews, and operational planning.
- Collaborate with leadership to improve production efficiency and field performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of commercial roofing experience
- Previous Superintendent or General Superintendent experience preferred
- Experience managing multiple commercial roofing projects simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of TPO, EPDM, PVC, Modified Bitumen, BUR, and metal roofing systems
Skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and commercial roofing safety practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software
- Strong planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills
Preferred
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Manufacturer certifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working at heights
- Ability to climb ladders and inspect rooftop work
- Ability to lift roofing materials and equipment as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday
Requirements
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
