Job Description
Location: This position allows for a hybrid (remote/in office) work environment, with a requirement for an incumbent living outside of Hilo to work on-site on the Big Island at regular intervals throughout the year (approximately four times per year for visits of approximately one week each). Airfare and lodging will be paid for by the organization, in accordance with our policies.
Position Summary: As the East Hawaii Region transitions its e-health record to Epic on November 1, the Finance division is growing its team to establish and optimize this transformative system for our hospitals and clinics. As a member of the East Hawaii Medical Group’s E-Health Record Finance team, the Regional EHR Patient Access Specialist will be responsible for collaborating on the design, build, testing, implementation, optimization and support of Epic Patient Access applications. This role supports financial operations by ensuring accurate system configuration and workflow alignment with business needs across acute, CAH, and ambulatory settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Epic configuration, testing, and optimization for key patient access functions including registration, scheduling, eligibility, and referrals.
- Analyze front-end workflows and performance metrics to identify gaps and recommend process improvements that enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Clinical, and IT teams to ensure seamless Epic system integration and support cross-functional initiatives.
- Provide front-line Epic support by troubleshooting access-related issues, documenting solutions, and escalating complex problems as needed.
- Assist with Epic upgrade testing, go-live support, and small-scale project coordination to improve system performance and workflow alignment.
- Create and maintain training materials and reports to support user education, KPI tracking, and ongoing optimization of access operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field. Additional experience in Patient Access as described below may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis
- 3 years Epic experience in Patient Access
- Epic certification in one or more Patient Access related modules:Revenue Cycle areas preferred or within 1 month of hire
- Advanced proficiency in Epic configuration, workflow analysis, troubleshooting, and end-user training—demonstrated by taking lead roles in builds, go-lives, or upgrades
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills—able to engage with leadership, multiple departments, prioritize issues, and facilitate constructive decision making

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
