The Maintenance Tech is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting daily production operations, equipment reliability, and plant safety within a biologicals manufacturing environment focused on humic and fulvic-based products. This blended role combines production shift leadership with advanced maintenance and troubleshooting responsibilities to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.
This individual will lead day-to-day shift activities, support operators, troubleshoot equipment and process issues, perform advanced maintenance repairs, and help maintain a clean, organized, and compliant manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, capable of leading teams on the floor, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial production setting.
Roles & Responsibilities
Production & Shift Leadership
- Lead daily shift operations and support production activities across the manufacturing plant.
- Provide floor leadership and direction to production employees during assigned shifts.
- Cover employee absences and assist in maintaining production continuity.
- Communicate shift updates, operational concerns, and production status to plant leadership.
- Verify production log sheets, batch documentation, and operational records are completed accurately.
- Ensure production processes and work instructions are followed consistently.
- Perform pre-operational equipment inspections and verify readiness for production.
- Review raw materials and finished products for quality and operational concerns.
- Troubleshoot operational and process issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Support employee coaching, conflict resolution, and overall team accountability in partnership with plant leadership.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized manufacturing environment.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.
- Diagnose equipment failures and conduct root cause analysis to reduce recurring downtime.
- Repair and maintain motors, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, valves, mixers, and other production equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems including 220V/480V systems, motor controls, relays, panels, and contactors.
- Install, align, and commission new or relocated equipment as needed.
- Perform welding and fabrication work to repair or modify equipment and structural components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Respond to maintenance work orders and emergency repairs during production operations.
- Assist with maintaining maintenance logs, repair records, and parts inventory.
- Submit purchase requests for replacement parts and operational supplies as directed.
Safety & Compliance
- Operate equipment and machinery in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure proper PPE usage at all times.
- Identify and communicate potential safety hazards or operational risks.
- Support plant housekeeping, sanitation, and environmental compliance efforts.
- Participate in on-call rotations, overtime, weekends, or extended shifts as operational needs require.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of 220V/480V electrical systems preferred.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and work instructions.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited oversight while supporting team operations.
- High attention to detail with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Basic computer skills for production and maintenance documentation.
- Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 5 years of manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or production leadership experience preferred.
- Experience within chemical, agriculture, biologicals, liquid processing, or industrial manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
- Technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance, manufacturing technology, or related field is a plus.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and reaching overhead.
- Ability to work in dusty, hot, cold, noisy, and industrial manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment and industrial machinery.
- Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in production environments.
