Title: Director of Staff Development (DSD)
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports To: Director of Nursing (or Nursing Home Administrator)
Pay Range: $80k-$90k annually
THE ROLE
You will lead with both heart and discipline. That means keeping every clinical staff member trained, competent, and confident in their role. You will stay ahead of state and federal training mandates, create engaging orientation programs, and build a culture where CNAs, LVNs, and RNs want to learn and grow. Surveyors will see a complete, up‑to‑date training file for every employee – and you will be the reason.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE FACILITY
- THE FOUNDATION
- Current, unencumbered LVN licensei ssued by the State.
- Certification as a DSD.
- THE JOURNEY
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in a skilled nursing facility.
- Experience developing and delivering training programs for clinical staff.
- Familiarity with state‑mandated CNA training programs and in‑service requirements.
- Proven track record of maintaining complete, survey‑ready employee education files.
- THE CRAFT
- Deep fluency in applicable state and federal training requirements for skilled nursing facilities.
- Ability to create, schedule, and document orientation, annual in‑services, and competency evaluations.
- Strong presentation and communication skills – you can teach infection control, safety, and clinical topics.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) or training tracking software.
- THE CHARACTER
- Calm, organized presence during a training audit or survey.
- Treats CNAs, LVNs, RNs, and non‑clinical staff as equal partners in learning.
- Handles employee performance concerns related to competency with empathy and sound judgment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver all clinical and non‑clinical training programs (orientation, annual in‑services, competency evaluations).
- Maintain accurate, audit‑ready education files for every employee per state and federal regulations.
- Track training compliance and report gaps to the DON and Administrator.
- Facilitate CNA training programs (if offered by the facility) and ensure state certification requirements are met.
- Coordinate with department heads to identify training needs and schedule in‑services.
- Serve as the facility's CPR instructor (or coordinate with external instructors).
- Prepare for and support state and federal surveys related to staff education and competency.
