What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Support Specialist position at HFLW Brand?
The Home for Little Wanderers seeks a Community Support Specialist (CSS) for their private school located in Walpole. Clifford Academy is a Chapter 766 DESE approved therapeutic school serving youth with emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. Reporting to the CSS Coordinator, the CSS position is critical in fostering a positive culture within the school’s learning community. Because they help ensure the school day operates smoothly, CSS punctuality at 8:00AM is crucial to getting the morning off to a good start. After arrival, CSS use protocols and relational skills with students to ensure their classroom and milieu experiences are safe and learning productive.
How You'll Be Making a Difference
- Work closely with the CSS Coordinator to initiate and maintain effective school structures and routines.
- Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (you will be trained) strategies when supporting youth.
- Operate within and outside of classrooms to assist students in meeting their academic and vocational expectations.
- Ensure completion of all necessary paperwork including incident reporting, etc.
- Provide coverage of shifts as needed, including coverage in support of students that reside at the Walpole campus.
- Help manage medical and emergency situations.
- Ensure students adhere to school policies as detailed in the Clifford Academy Handbook.
- Perform other school community support duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Principal to support youth.
- Work schedule: 8 AM-4:00 PM
- Ensure all safety precautions are taken when students are entering and exiting the school (wand check-in, electronics turned in, etc.).
Qualifications
- Equivalent to two years' plus of college and/or two years' plus childcare experience in a residential setting with similar population
- Supervisory experience helpful
- Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications
