What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronics Design Engineer position at Hex, Inc.?
About Hextronics
Hex is building the infrastructure for on-demand aerial data. We design and manufacture drone-in-a-box systems that automate repetitive drone operations, taking humans out of the loop so the people who depend on aerial data can move faster. We're a small, agile team, we move fast, take on extreme ownership, and build products in months, not years.
The Role
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll own electrical components end-to-end — from architecture through schematic, layout, bring-up, and production. You'll drive RF design across our drone and dock platforms, write firmware for board bring-up and validation, and partner closely with our hardware team to ship products that work in the real world.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end design process for electrical subsystems — schematic, layout, bring-up, and validation
- Drive schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout in Altium
- Lead RF design across drone and dock platforms
- Write C/C firmware for board bring-up, diagnostics, and hardware validation
- Define and execute verification, validation, and acceptance testing procedures for development and production hardware
- Drive root cause analysis on hardware issues and ship robust solutions
- Propose and validate system architecture decisions through simulation, calculation, and hands-on analysis
- Work cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing to ensure system-level performance
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 1-5 years of professional EE experience with a track record of products through a full development lifecycle
- Expert proficiency in Altium for schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout
- Deep understanding of analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, and high-speed signal integrity
- Hands-on RF design experience - antenna integration, impedance-controlled layout, link budget analysis, and bench testing with VNAs and spectrum analyzers
- Proficiency in C/C for firmware development, particularly for board bring-up, diagnostics, and hardware validation
- Strong experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE) and analysis to support design decisions
Nice to Have
- Experience with low-power, long-range protocols like LoRa and Wi-Fi HaLow
- Direct experience taking products through FCC and equivalent international regulatory certification
- Expertise in embedded systems architecture with STM32 microcontrollers — peripheral configuration, power management, and debugging
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and EMI/EMC pre-compliance
- UAV, robotics, aerospace, or defense industry background
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and equity
- Health, dental, and vision coverage
- The chance to work on electrical hardware that controls physical systems in the field
- A small, technical team where your work ships and matters
Hex is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
