Payroll Specialist

Role Mission:

To ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across all divisions, contributing to employee satisfaction, financial accuracy, and strong internal controls. This role exists to protect Hewitt Young’s people, systems, and results by managing payroll with precision, confidentiality, and service.

Core Responsibilities:

• Process payroll accurately for hourly, salaried, field, and union employees according to pay schedules.


• Validate timecards, hours, job costing, pay adjustments, PTO, and reimbursements to prevent errors before submission.


• Maintain payroll records, deductions, garnishments, and tax documentation in compliance with regulations.


• Respond to payroll inquiries quickly with a focused, solution-oriented approach.


• Partner with HR on onboarding/offboarding accuracy ensuring all updates are entered promptly.


• Generate and reconcile payroll reports for audits, forecasting, and financial accuracy.


• Ensure confidentiality, protect sensitive data, and follow established controls and security standards.


• Identify payroll process improvements and drive consistency across all divisions.

Must-Have Competencies:

• Strong payroll knowledge including wage and hour laws, taxes, and union rules.


• High accuracy and attention to detail.


• Analytical problem solving and data reconciliation skills.


• Time management and ability to meet strict deadlines.


• Proficiency in payroll timekeeping systems.
