Hetch Hetchy Water and Power is hiring a Civil Engineer to assist with operations and management of the water conveyance system that provides drinking water and power to the City and County of San Francisco. Hetch Hetchy Water and Power (HHWP) is a Division of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), part of the City and County of San Francisco. The SFPUC provides water to over 2.7 million people in the Bay Area, 85% of which comes from the HHWP system. HHWP operates 5 dams, 4 powerhouses, 5 tunnels totaling over 100 miles in length, 4 pipelines across 45 miles and many additional valvehouses, adits, pump stations and other facilities. This position will be in the Water and Power Planning group, which is responsible for managing the HHWP storage and regulating reservoirs, scheduling the powerhouses and pipeline deliveries, and safely operating the dams. HHWP offices are based out of Moccasin, California, in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Position Description
- Under general direction, performs difficult and responsible professional engineering work in the field and office; supervises and manages professional and technical engineering staff, consultants, and other related staff engaged in a variety of engineering projects
- Guides operations and provides technical support to maintain water quality and safe operating conditions in the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct, including storage and regulating reservoirs, tunnels, and the San Joaquin Pipeline
- Develops, maintains and operates hydraulic models of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. Uses these models to provide guidance for Aqueduct operation and integration with wholistic HHWP system models
- Maintains HHWP hydrologic and power system time series databases and resolves data requests from internal and external agencies
- Reviews proposals, drawings, work plans and deliverables for maintenance and capital projects on the San Joaquin Pipeline and other HHWP water facilities
- Reviews engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and work products produced by staff, consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, adequacy and conformance to standards. Verifies quantity, dimensions, safety requirements, and proper test and start-up procedures
- Presents system information and status reports in written and oral form to various internal and external user groups
- Works closely with technical services staff from various Divisions in the Water and Power Enterprises of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Infrastructure and other internal and external organizations
Salary : $151,684 - $184,418
