What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Programmer position at Hesston Machine & Welding Inc.?
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented CNC Programmer to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing computer numerical control (CNC) programs to ensure precise and efficient machining operations. Your expertise will directly contribute to producing high-quality components with tight tolerances, supporting lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about machining technology, possesses strong mechanical knowledge, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where precision and innovation are valued.
Duties
- Develop and write CNC programs for various machining centers including CNC milling machines and CNC lathes using CAM programming software such as CATIA or SolidWorks.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to determine machining requirements.
- Set up and calibrate CNC machines, ensuring proper tooling, fixtures, and workpieces are aligned according to specifications.
- Optimize machining processes by applying lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance productivity.
- Conduct toolpath verification, simulation, and testing to ensure programs produce accurate parts within specified tolerances.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as bore gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to inspect finished components.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to electrical discharge machining (EDM), tooling wear, or geometric inaccuracies; make necessary adjustments to programs or setups.
- Collaborate with design engineers using CAD software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks to review designs and suggest manufacturability improvements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in CNC programming for both milling machines and lathes using Fanuc controls or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA or equivalent for creating and modifying toolpaths.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining techniques, tooling selection, and fixture design.
- Familiarity with GD&T standards for precise measurement and quality control of machined parts.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid grasp of geometry, schematics, schematics interpretation, and math fundamentals necessary for accurate programming.
- Experience with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
- Ability to operate precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), bore gauges, and schematics for inspection purposes.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot program errors or machine malfunctions efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and machine operators. Join us in shaping the future of manufacturing by bringing innovative ideas into precise reality! Your expertise will help us deliver exceptional quality while fostering a culture of continuous improvement through lean manufacturing practices. If you’re passionate about CNC technology and eager to grow your career in a supportive environment that values precision craftsmanship—this is the opportunity for you!
