This is a combination position that serves as both a teacher (40% of the time) and HVAC Technician (60%) of thetime. This is also a 12 month position. (245 day contract)Summary:Teacher - Assist students in learning the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature,able and responsible individuals. Create conditions that will encourage and stimulate learning. Teaches 2 courses,each course is taught 3 days a week.Technician - The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing the skilled and technical work in the installation,service, maintenance and repair of the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, BAS controls, frequencydrives, oil fired boilers, and related equipment and to maintain optimal environmental conditions in all PCPSbuildings. Serves as a Technician when not teaching the 2 courses.Teacher - Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Be professionally and personally responsible for the order and progress of classes under his/her authority direction and supervision.Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each student.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and approaches to the maturity and interests of the students.Prepare lessons for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher instructional assistants, volunteers, and substitute teachers.Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in congruency with those goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and project to communicate said objectives to students.Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.Evaluate students’ academic and social growth using a variety of data sources; keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.Strive to implement by instruction and action the division’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.Select and requisition books and instructional materials and supplies and maintain required inventory records.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.Set an annual goal (goals) for improving student achievement, using the results of an initial assessment.Diagnose the instructional needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of division specialists as required.Administer, review and analyze class standardized tests in accordance with division testing programs.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures.Attend staff meetings, PTO meetings, and serves on staff committees, as required.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.Seat students in his/her class in such a way as to expedite the learning process and never arrange such seating that stigmatizes students.Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals established by the Virginia Standards of Learning, in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.Demonstrate an understanding of the job tasks.Possess knowledge of teaching and instruction of the grade level or subjects assigned, with the use of effective techniques.Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subject(s) being taught.Demonstrate the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication; and, tointeract eff ectively with parents, pupils, other teachers, administrators, classifi ed employees, and thecommunity.Ability to operate computers to design graphics and other written materials.Demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal content.Demonstrate responsibility for professional growth by seeking continuing education and in-service training programs.Evaluate students fairly on stated objectives.Demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members; using support services when needed; ensuring that oral communications are clear, accurate, and grammatically correct; respecting the confidential nature of professional information; grading and recording tests and major assignments within a reasonable length of time; submitting reports accurately and punctually, resolving discipline problems in accordance with individual school guidelines; and complying with administrative directives and school board policy.Demonstrate self-control in the interaction with the school community.Demonstrate good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance and efficient use of time.Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literatures.Ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory staff s at all levels.Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.Strive to maintain and improve professional competence, by keeping abreast of current educational trends.Additional duties or responsibilities may be assigned based on level or subject taught as assigned by principal.Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent, or designee.QualificationsMust hold appropriate Virginia Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement in assigned subject area or must be eligible to qualify for a provisional teaching license.Education and/or ExperienceBachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university.Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or public.Reasoning/Other AbilitiesAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.Physical DemandsWork involves operation of office equipment and limited physical tasks. Setting SMART goals and maintaining a Documentation Log are required methodsof providing evidence of performance related to the specific performance standards.HVAC Technician - Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Performs the full range of work involved in the repair, maintenance, installation and service of the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating systems (to include Dx units, RTU’s, VAV’s, Unit Ventilators, Water Source Heat Pumps, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Variable Refrigerant Flow System, DOAS, Frequency Drives, and Oil Fired Boilers), BAS controls and related equipment.Diagnoses, locates and repairs malfunctions with all the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, BAS controls and related equipment.Maintain records of repairs, maintenance and service of all the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, BAS controls and related equipment.Maintain records of Refrigerant recovery, usage and leak rate on all refrigeration equipment.Install, replace, maintain, repair, diagnose and service pneumatic, electronic and electric control systems and related equipment.Participate in the energy conservation program of PCPS by performing scheduled maintenance of designated HVAC equipment.Assist in the development of preventive maintenance programs.Establish and carry out appropriate safe practices at job sites.Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent, or designee.QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentHVAC Journeyman’s CertificateUniversal CFC Certification5 years’ experience in commercial HVAC trade supplemented by course work in the HVAC field.Skilled in the use of tools and related equipment needed to perform repair, service and diagnoses of HVAC equipment.Thorough knowledge of applicable HVAC codes.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.Some background in plumbing, electrical and sheet metal work.Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalentFour years technical trainingApprenticeship trainingKnowledge of computer applicationLanguage SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
